Whether you have purchased a new electric vehicle and need a charger installed or require a new charger for an existing vehicle, I am your local ELECTRICIAN IN BRYNMAWR and one of my specialties is the installation of Zappi vehicle charging equipment.
What is a Zappi Charger?
The Zappi is a High-Quality UK made Vehicle charger from MyEnergi. It is the latest (2024) in smart charging technology with the capability to take power from the grid, solar panel input or from both.
The Zappi unit is completely customisable and combined with an app, allows for various features including timers that allow charging to commence when low-rate economy tariffs are in place at your home.
What is needed when installing a vehicle charger?
As a professional electrician, there are many safety regulations that I am obligated to follow before and during the installation and as such a home visit may be necessary in order to establish what is needed to ensure your current electrical system is suitable for the new installation.
There are some requirements that your home needs to have in order to carry out the installation such as:
• Off street parking where the charger can be installed
• Reliable WI-FI connection in order to communicate with the unit
• Existing Mains Power Supply to be sufficient (I can check this)
• Landlords’ permission if the property is rented
Do I need an Electrician to install the charging equipment?
Absolutely, Yes. There are many building regulations and safety wiring regulations that need to be followed in order to achieve a safe installation that not only works but is guaranteed to disconnect the power in the event of dangerous electrical faults.
Without a professional electrician like PG Electrics, there are likely to be several non-compliances with the regulations and electrical hazards along with the risk of electric shock.
I will ensure that your installation complies with all the relevant regulations and provide you with any relevant certification for the work for your peace of mind.
How long does installation take?
The installation itself can be carried out in as little as 4 hours. I will explain the process, the work that has been carried out and walk you through your new charging equipment.
Installation times may vary if there are remedial works that need to be carried out prior to installing the new equipment. Such works could include upgrading the earth connection to the mains or ensuring that the safety electrical connections to pipework are in place before commencing the installation.
Where there are additional works that need to be carried out in order to safely install your equipment, I will let you know about these and the cost for bringing an older installation up to standard.
What to expect on the day of installation
I will need good clear working access to the area around the consumer unit the cable route, and the area that the charging equipment will be installed. I will let you know in advance which areas need to be cleared so the installation can be carried out.
The power supply to your home may need to be turned off for a period of the visit in order that a power supply can be fed to the new vehicle charging equipment so try to ensure that your mobile devices are charged and if necessary, make a thermos flask for tea or coffee if you rely on an electric kettle.
If you work from home, ensure that you have a mobile hotspot set up and a fully charged laptop. I always aim to keep inconvenience to an absolute minimum whilst carrying out electrical works.
