Every year more EV vehicles are purchased and with government targets to cease production of petrol and diesel cars as soon as possible, EV vehicles are not going away. Every EV vehicle needs its own charger though and there will not be enough space at offices, supermarkets, and garage forecourts to install enough EV chargers for the vehicles that need them.
As your local EV CHARGER INSTALLERS IN EBBW VALE, we can ensure that you have your own charging point at home where you can charge you vehicle whilst you enjoy the comfort of your home.
Can every home have an EV charger?
Many homes can have an EV charger installed so long as there is a driveway, garage, or off-road space at your property where we can install the equipment safely.
The electrical system in your home will also need to be able to cope with the pressure that an EV charger will place on the system.
Older electrical systems may struggle to provide the power necessary to charge an EV vehicle quickly enough but not to worry, we are here to help.
A site visit is normally required before a firm quote can be given. This is to ascertain the length of the cable run from the mains supply to the EV charging unit, establish any obstacles in the way and to check the capacity of the incoming equipment, safety earthing and fuse box.
With older electrical systems it may be necessary to upgrade the safety earthing where required.
What is involved in the installation?
Once we have established that your current electrical system is up to the job we can begin the installation. The cable is installed from the mains to the EV charging unit and secured along its route. Once the cable has been connected it is tested to ensure that there is earth continuity, cable insulation is adequate and that the resistance meets the standards for the protective device at the consumer unit.
These electrical tests are absolutely vital to ensure that the wiring regulations are met along with safety standards. Further testing may be necessary at the consumer unit to ensure any electric shock protection is working as required.
The monitoring equipment and cabling is installed to ensure the mains does not become overloaded.
The device is powered up and programmed. Live testing may be performed in accordance with regulations and the manufacturer of the device.
Are EV chargers expensive to run?
Charging an electric vehicle requires a lot of electricity which is why modern chargers come with special features to allow vehicle charging to take place at times that you specify. This allows you to make the best use of any energy saving tariffs that you may have with your supplier between certain hours of the day or night.
Most modern chargers have app connectivity to allow your phone to connect for the most control and programming of your charger.
